Interview of the day with Klara Tarr-Cselovszky, Head of the External Relations Department of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary and new elected proxy in the CPCE Council

Mrs Tarr, how are you feeling as a Hungarian at this Assembly?
I am doing very well. I feel comfortable. I’ve met old and new friends. And I’m enjoying my work as a participant, not just as a Hungarian.

There was a lot of discussion about the positions of the Hungarian Reformed Churches at this Assembly. What did that do to you?
We arrived here with a clear position from our church concerning the Paper on Sexuality and Gender. We have a position based on biblical theology. The position of our Council of Bishops was also clear. But we are also prepared to discuss it. At the same time, we are in solidarity with the Reformed Church in Hungary, which has the same theological level. We really miss these churches here. There would have been nine more to represent our position.

What did you like most about this Assembly in Sibiu?
I liked the joint church services, the devotions and especially the visit to the congregations today, where we were warmly welcomed by the local church members.

What will you take home with you when you leave tomorrow?
That our community is very important. That we should tolerate differences and that different positions can be taken into account. That’s what I expected from the Assembly and that’s what happened.
